Lifesong Wilderness Adventures Teens summer 2009

If you were not able make our teen camp for 2009, all of us wish you could have.   Full of challenges and rewards, this awesome group proved beyond a doubt that they had what it takes to tough it out, learn new life skills, while supporting  and empowering  each other along the way.

They hauled water, washed dishes, helped in the kitchen, scrambled up trails, jumped in bone chilling  water, learned to make fire with sticks, deal with mosquitoes and other pesky critters.  They laughed and hollered, ate bread cooked on a rock, drank pine needle tea, ate grasshoppers, scorpions, potatoes cooked in ashes, and who knows what else.

Not to say they didn’t enjoy the Dutch oven Peach Cobbler, or the Chocolate cake made for Charlies birthday.  Lets not forget the delicious Carrot cake the staff and apprentices made up for my birthday.  A special thanks to Mitchel, that was an exceptional carrot cake!

The teens ate everything, well almost everything, the staff put in front of them.  The big eaters this year at camp was definitely a tie between Josh and Charlie.  Though I did hear Josh comment several times he could eat no more.  But then Charlie did say that he thought he was putting on weight.

Everyone was a big help including Dylan who was would get up early most mornings and with me and help with the kitchen and share a cup of coffee.  Thanks Dylan!

A very special thanks to Nathan, who made sure the kitchen ran smoothly, we could not have done this camp without him.  Another special thanks to the apprentices (Eli and Gabe), who were a tremendous support to the whole camp, and mentored and made the teens feel welcome.  And a thank you to Zeno our other apprentice who had to leave early, but maybe returning to camp with us another time.  Thanks for your good humor, songs, and may you never run out of sugar!

On top of the world!

I also want to say a special thanks to all of the parents of the teens who attended camp this summer.  It was wonderful to have your young men and women join us for this special time.  They are an amazing group, unique, special, each very talented in their own way.

Be proud of them as I know you are.
