“My Lodge” is a poem by -Duke Redbird the Author of “Native Indian Wild Game Fish & Wild Foods Cookbook.”

“Tuckers Stew for an Army”.
2 large sized buffalo brown gravy (Lots)

Reserve the heads and tails as you will need something to store the pieces in.
After its all cut up, put in a large pot and add enough brown gravy to cover the meat.
Vegetables may be added at this time to taste.
Cook stew over a kerosene fire about 4 weeks at 400F.
Periodically add water and stir.
This will serve about 3937 people. If more guests are expected, the 2 rabbits may be added, but do this only if necessary as most people do not like fine hare in their stew.”
My Lodge
Simple was my lodge
of Birch
Pure was the water
that I drank
Swift was the canoe
that carried me
Straight was the arrow
that protected me
Wild was the meat
that fed me
Sweet was the
Sugar Maple
Strong were the herbs
that sustained me
Great was my Mother
The Earth
-Duke Redbird
Duke dedicates his cook book -
To all who continue to teach the Old Ways
and Traditions of Native culture
to the next generation.
And to -
The millions of responsible hunters,
anglers and naturalists who
treat the earth with respect,
ensuring our children will
enjoy the beauty of nature
and the wilderness as we have.
Its a great cook book.
Includes a squirrel recipe or two and if you like Eel, Redbirds “Casserole of Eels”, makes my mouth water just thinking about it.
