Second Circle Camp expands First Circle’s exclusive California wilderness survival training and bushcraft skills by increasing your foundation in outdoor survival with adventure.  Hiking into the wilderness with a Lifesong instructor, will advance your survival skills and develop a deeper awareness and connection to the outdoors.

Second Circle wilderness survival challenges your physical and mental abilities with the following activities during adventure hikes.

Program ♦ Second Circle – Implementing Survival Training and Bushcraft Skills

Natural Camouflage

  • adventure mapping – use topographical map, compass, GPS and map course of travel
  • nighttime navigation – with wilderness orientation
  • pathfinding – using wildlife trails and assessing terrain
  • shelter – build using modern and natural provisions
  • water – generate with solar, locate, transport, filter and/or treat for consumption
  • fire – using flint and steel and wood friction techniques
  • wild edibles – identify and gather insect, plant
  • open fire cooking – boil water in natural containers, cook wild edibles
  • tracking – awareness challenges
  • the hunt – stalking, observation
  • practice leave no trace camping

I, for one, have changed in more ways than I know at this point.  I came to Lifesong Wilderness Adventures to overcome fear of the outdoors and to learn the skills necessary to survive in any outdoor situation. I learned many, many of these skills.  I have learned how to be one with nature….  Surviving is not easy, on the contrary, it is hard – but it is easy to live through any situation if you have the right tools.  That’s what Lifesong did for me.  I feel I now have the tools to, not only survive in any situation, but to thrive in all situations.

  • Eligible Students: Adults minimum age 18 – enrollment maximum 12
  • Requirements: Completion of First Circle Camp  First and Second Circle may be completed consecutively.
  • Duration: 6 days 5 nights
  • Schedule: begins on Sunday at 4:00 pm – ends on Friday at 12:00 pm (noon)
  • Location: 4 hours north of San Francisco Bay area, in the northern California mountains at over 6000 feet
  • Accommodations: primitive outdoor camping
  • Meals: included
  • Equipment: a registration packet will be supplied after enrollment; tent and sleeping pad rentals are available for $45
  • Transport: Shuttle service from Medford, Oregon airport $80; Dunsmuir, CA train station $55; and, Weed, CA Greyhound bus station free.
  • Instructors and Staff: Mark Wienert Jr. owner – founder and head instructor; Staff – Lifesong volunteer students and possible guest instructor(s)
