Third Circle Survival Camp
Third Circle Survival Camp
Third Circle Survival Camp adds another dimension to your skill level. First and Second Circle Survival Camps are prerequisites for Third Circle Camp. Primitive hunting tools and techniques are challenging to construct and use. Your continuing education will involve, an at-latl the precursor to the bow and arrow; and a variety of other hunting tools will be discussed and built with an opportunity to practice, practice, practice.
Indigenous peoples were continually improving their hunting abilities and among these were the snares and traps. A figure four deadfall can be constructed for capturing very small creatures to significantly larger prey. You will have the opportunity to build a modest sized trap using this pattern.
Snares are also compatible for small or large prey and were used in a variety of ways from studying the habitats and behaviors of wildlife. You will be putting your awareness techniques to work developing strategies for practical uses of the snare.
There are many ways to fish and we will instruct you in some simple and effective primitive fishing equipment. Whether it swims, crawls, flies or runs will determine your best possible method for capture.
Remember to hang on to your sense of humor, animals are very smart, that is why, “the early bird catches the worm.”
It is our intention to instruct each student in the use of primitive tools and skills which are quick and simple, but extremely effective where and whenever you need to draw on them. Hunting, stalking and tracking are a large part of successful survival. We may not want to harm an animal, but if you should find yourself in a survival scenario and you need to eat, wouldn’t it be nice to know how to take an animal with reverence and respect for the nourishment it will provide?
At Lifesong we do not take the life of animals without the legal ability to do so, nor unnecessarily. We also gather wild plants with respect for the limitations of the landscape and the needs of the wildlife.
It is knowledge that allows us to read the landscape and it is our ability and skill that transforms knowledge into something tangible.
More Information
Third Circle Camp is the third in our Circle series. The Circle Camps are a series of four camps designed to help you progress from basic to advanced survival techniques and skills.
Camps are purposefully kept to a maximum of twelve students, adults 18 and older, so we may provide you with ‘hands-on’ , personalized attention.
Third Circle Camps are held in the rugged and picturesque Siskiyou Mountain Range of northern California, near MT Shasta.
Because our camps are successive you must attend First and Second Circle Camp before progressing to Third Circle Camp. This allows you the opportunity to create a solid foundation in survival skills.
By now you should have a firm grasp on basic survival skills and nature awareness as we continue to hone your skills and add primitive hunting tools and techniques to your education.
In the two prior circle camps you have learned about fire, shelter, wild edibles and water purification. Here is where you will practice those skills by constructing a shelter and sleeping in it during camp; and, you’ll need food too, no we won’t make you gather all your food, just some.
Third Circle Camp is the prelude to your graduation through the fourth and final circle, Rites of Passage.
