Our mornings are filled with bird calls.  The Stellar Jays are usually the first to let us know morning has arrived and the Douglas squirrels aren't far behind.

The Jays you will become familiar with at

camp are the Clark's Nutcrackers or

what we learned to call them as

  children...Camp Robbers.  They love to

check out the picnic table.  Jay's cache

nuts and seeds...know where to look?

Perhaps more importantly for you are the Ruffed Grouse.  We don't kill

animals at Lifesong Adventures, but it is important for you to know what is available and edible during a survival event.  During the

spring,  Ruffed Grouse can provide food in

more than one way, find a nest and have eggs

for breakfast.  They won't make it easy for

  you....

Ravens are predominately scavengers, pay attention to congregations, chances are they are feeding on a carcass and you may be able to scavenge with them.

Birds and mammals may lead you to food and water, but you must learn about their natural behaviors to take advantage of what nature has to offer.

Look up these last two and tell us about them in Camp. We'd love to hear how you can benefit from watching them!
