Sacred Fire Second Circle Camp

Second Circle Camp adds to your skill level the art of the hand drill.  Not an easy technique, but a very valuable one. 

Mark and Joey demonstrate the process below by teaming up.

Not only will you have the opportunity to practice the bow drill  learned in First Circle Camp, now you will acquire the indigenous skill of the hand drill and the calluses. 

As with, the bow drill, the hand drill requires a fire board, spindle and tinder bundle.  As one person rolls the spindle from top to bottom between the hands, the next person takes over at the top when the first reaches the bottom.  Mark is preparing to take over as Joey nears the bottom. 

The spindle is seated in the notch of the fire board.  The tinder bundle may be placed under the fire board as with the bow drill, or kept near at hand and dry.  The coal created by the rapidly revolving spindle is used to ignite the tinder bundle then blow.......
