A definition of Mammal ~ one class of animals that have backbones, are warm-blooded, breath air and whose females have milk-secreting glands for their young. In the class mamallia there are 19 orders and over 5,000 species of mammals, ranging from the 2 inch shrew to the 120 foot whale.

We, humans, relate to other classes of mammals for we share many of the same genes.  We create stuffed animals and encourage our young to cuddle and nurture them.  We connect with nature from a very early age.

At camp we will track the illusive bruin.  Black Bears are predominately herbivores and dine on grasses, roots, berries, seeds, nuts and fruit.  Not only will you search for paw prints, but day beds, favorite back scratching trees and numerous other forms of sign.......

Scat, that's right the big pile of poo!

  Find out what, "Smokey's" been

  eating for lunch!

It's not just the big critter we're looking for, but the pint size one that's been pilfering the trail mix.  There's no hiding, the evidence is as plain as your face!

Can you follow his trail across a rock or log?

I guess that will depend on whether he makes room

  for that cheek stash.

If we're lucky this guy will serenade us round the camp fire.  He's the class clown, he's always having a good time.
