Teen Camps

Teen Adventure Wilderness Skills Summer Camp

Teen Camp summer wilderness survival adventure is described by our co-ed students as COOL, AWESOME!  Students say it is like no other summer camp they have ever experienced.

I learned more through Mark’s careful guidance and rich knowledge of the natural world than I have ever learned in any classroom, and I had much more fun doing it.
~Eli L.

Held in northern California at our high summer field camp, camps are purposefully kept to a minimum of eight students so we may provide each one with ‘hands-on’, personalized attention.  Teens should be in good physical shape to attend.

Summer Teen camps are held in the rugged, picturesque Siskiyou Mountain Range of northern California, near MT Shasta.

Camp offers the basics in wilderness survival and nature awareness with an overnight bivouac, games, and creating and using primitive tools.

Each camp is full of fun and adventure and many unforgettable experiences. We hope your teen will join us in another COOL, AWESOME summer camp like no other !!

Fun at camp!

Life changing! Lifesong Wilderness Adventures Teen Camp 2009

Teen Camps

Teen Camps are challenging, tough sometimes, definitely exciting and truly unforgettable. Teens are full of energy and creativity and we channel those valuable resources towards nature awareness, wilderness survival skills, animal tracking, camouflage, hiking, and backpacking.

My two boys who are now aged 16 & 17 have been going to Mark’s camps for
about 2 years now and have loved each one of them. They come home
filthy dirty, wide eyed and full of great stories. They’ve learned so
many things from Mark, and they want to go again for two weeks this up
coming summer!

~Leslie L.

Before we begin with the basic tenets of wilderness survival skills, we share the importance of, “leave no trace camping”, etiquette. It is important for all wilderness adventurers to leave the environment in as pristine a condition as possible for all successive guests.

Following the camp rules of survival, will be knife safety and use. Besides food and Mark, your knife will be your best friend at camp. Food is very important to our teens and they join in the cooking experience using Dutch ovens and making bread on a stick.

Creating friction fire is an individual endeavor and also a team challenge. Each teen makes his/her own friction fire kit and learns to build a proper tipi fire. The ability to create fire from the natural surroundings is very gratifying, personally rewarding and a unique skill.

Fire is just one of the four survival basics. Shelter, water and food are the rest of the equation and teens will participate in purifying/filtering water and use an interesting technique to acquire water from the sun. Numerous shelter types will be discussed and they will gather and eat wild edibles.

Wildlife is always a favorite with teens and we will share stories of encounters and behavior while observing and tracking the local inhabitants. This is a part of nature awareness and it involves more than using vision, it’s also about sound, smell, touch and taste which helps develops their natural intuition.

In nature prey animals are especially cautious and use camouflage and what we call, “Fox walking”, as a means of survival. Teens practice these behaviors in games of skill and technique.

Day and overnight hikes are short and long, up creeks, across boulder fields, through forests and meadows, the terrain is ever changing, challenging and fun. Walk, crawl, slither, jump, teens do it all with courage and determination.

During these excursions teens learn about map reading, path finding and wilderness orientation using primitive and modern techniques. Each teen takes turns reading a topographical map and leading the group on a hike.

“It’s the most incredible experience I have ever had!”  Issac – 2009
