Winter Survival Camp an exceptional Lifesong Wilderness Adventure experience.

Learning the art of winter survival is what winter camp is all about.

Camp is held just a few miles north of Mt. Shasta, California, nestled within the rugged crags of ancient Limestone cliffs.  Winter Camp is a year round home to Columbian Blacktail Deer, Mountain Lion, Wild Turkey, Cottontail and Jack Rabbit, Eagles, Owls, Coyote, and  many other species of wonderful wildlife great and small.

Winter Camp requires more effort for creature comforts.  We develop your abilities in:

• axe craft

• winter fire craft

• primitive open fire cooking

• primitive winter shelters

During Winter Camp, when the weather is unfavorable for outdoor activities; we hunker down under cover; feed the stove, and work on our:

• storytelling

• knife use and carving

• primitive clothing and footwear - learn to make moccasins and capotes

• string and rope making from native plants.

• musical instruments

When the sun shines we head out to see what animals have left their tracks for us to follow.

• nature awareness, animal tracking, and wildlife behavior

• primitive orienteering

• wild and edible plants

• hydration and its importance in winter conditions

• throwing and casting primitive weaponry

• setting snares and deadfalls

Later we fire up the sauna/sweat lodge to enjoy and for a good cleansing.

Winter camp is not just about the skills of winter survival and living, its about the experience, learning how to endure and deal with cold, and all the other functions we take for granted when the sun is shining and temperatures are warm. One of the best things about snow camping; no mosquitoes, flies, or ticks.

Like all our survival camps, we’re all about adventure and learning great skills. Our Shasta winter camp is primitive but cozy, and always served with personal attention and hands on experience.

A group shelter with wood heat will be home for students during your time with us.
