California survival training began in 1994 when we offered our first survival course near Yosemite National Park. In 2004 we moved our training to northern California near Mount Shasta.
California Survival Training
We offer three specific courses for adults to build your experience in the outdoors.
The Circle camps begin with First, then Second Circle, and graduation, THE EDGE.
Each camp adds more advanced hands-on experience in wilderness survival and nature awareness training.
Why do we organize our training this way?
Nature teaches that to survive in wilderness we first must have a set of skills to meet our basic needs. To develop a high level of skill needed we must first build a strong foundation in these core elements of survival.
Can I attend more than one Circle Camp a year?
Yes, First and Second Circle often follow as back-to-back camps.
Who is eligible to attend Circle Camps?
Any adult 18 and older, active, and can walk and hike in uneven and some steep terrain. Our Circle camps are not a passive experience.
I have never camped before. Is this the right program for me?
Absolutely, this is a great program to begin your training. You receive personalized attention in a relaxed, comfortable, non-pressurized atmosphere.
Do women attend your camps?
Yes, women also enjoy learning survival skills. If you are a woman and considering taking a course with us you should feel very comfortable in attending. We offer a safe environment for all who attend our programs.
I have a lot of experience in the outdoors, why should I consider your program.
With over 40 years of outdoor and professional experience in the outdoors, including 24 years as a survival instructor. Lifesong Adventures survival training is an excellent choice.
Do I have to be in good physical condition to attend?
The First circle camp is designed so you do not have to be in great shape to attend. Being in good shape will make your overall experience more comfortable, but not necessary.
If you are able to walk at least two miles on uneven ground without having to call an ambulance, you will be fine.
We do our best to accommodate special health needs that are not life-threatening. If you have concerns or questions, please contact us.
Where do we sleep?
Personal tent, sleeping pad, and sleeping bag are required gear to attend our Circle Camps. We provide rentals for tent and pad if you do not have these.
Will we eat bugs at camp?
Our good friend Bear Grylls took insect and dead animal cuisine to a new level in the Man Vs Wild show. The answer is yes and no.
You will always have the opportunity to try wild edibles including insects and plants. We do not "make” you eat anything you do not want to. The idea is to pass on the knowledge just in case you may have to depend on a food you have never tried.
What will we eat at camp?
We take pride in the food we provide at camp. Part of your training is to learn to cook your own good, wholesome, organic, and free-range food.
