Adult Survival Camps
Each of our courses builds upon the previous one. Ratcheting up your core skills enabling you to become more self confident and empowered in the outdoors.
Becoming competent and successful in survival skills takes training, time, and field experience. There is no short cut to gaining competence in outdoor survival skills.
Our three outdoor camps do that. Providing the training you need.
- First Circle: fire, water, shelter, plants, food, tracking
- Advanced Survival Training: primitive shelter living-advanced level
- THE EDGE: Graduation – extreme survival training
Survival Skills Training
Survival training begins with First Circle. The next camp is Advanced Survival Training. Then, with these two Camps under your belt it’s time for graduation; THE EDGE.
Each of these three camps build up your experience and skill level. Our goal is to increase your competence as you complete each survival skills training. The benefit of this way of training is the high level of field experience you acquire. And the hands on survival training you gain.

Our clients and students safety are number one. In a real survival scenario the ability to act and stay safe increases your chances of survival. Safety is an important skill in recreating outdoors. Whether you’re out for a day hike or a weekend backpacking trip. We train the same way.
- situational awareness
- moving safely across landscapes
- knife safety
- fire science and safe application
- native plants
- wildlife and human interaction – insects
- leave no trace principles and application
What are Primitive Skills?
The vast majority of survival skills you learn with us at camp are known as Primitive Skills. Or First Skills. As an example let’s take the skill of Fire Craft. In your First Circle Camp we cover the fundamentals of fire making.
This includes how to gather, build, and maintain all the parts for a wood fire. You learn how to build cooking and warming fires. Fire made with both modern and primitive fire making tools. You will learn how to use wooden matches, a lighter, and modern flint for fire making success.
And importantly, you will learn primitive fire making the ancient way Man first made fire. This way your learning is deep. And prepares you with knowledge and options if one fire making technique fails.
First Circle is a 4-day survival skills training to develop the skills you need to survive.
Advanced Survival Training California
The Second Circle increases one’s outdoor and survival skill level . The Second Circle, advanced survival training, is your next camp to attend.
THE EDGE CA

Winter Survival Training CA
Winter camping is challenging. Our cold weather survival training prepares you for it.
As a teenager and adult I spent many winter months camping in various winter conditions. From the deep wet of the majestic coastal Redwood forests. To the wintry alpine slopes of Mount Shasta in February.
Winter Survival Skills
Winter camping was just as much home to me as summer was in the high country. But what Winter camping taught me was a whole new set of survival skills.
Too recreate, camp, and travel safely in coastal to alpine conditions. During the harshest months of winter. I had better train well and be prepared with the skills of winter survival.
Bushcraft in Snow Country
Based on my winter experiences in snow country Winter Camp was born. Winter Survival Skills Training. Winter Camp is focused on Bushcraft skills more than Alpine survival skills. However, particularity with shelter, we do cover Alpine snow shelters and how to construct them.
Working in Winter
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the important skills and experience I learned while working in the woods during winter. When the ground became frozen and plenty of snow to protect sensitive soils. We would work.
It was cold, foot, and finger numbing work. But I enjoyed it immensely and learned how to live and work in snow country.
All of my winter experience and skills are brought to this camp.

I have had the wonderful opportunity to teach survival skills in Texas for over 10 years now. The location we hold our camps is diverse in plant and wildlife species. And like all our field camps camping is primitive without modern conveniences.
